How to find blog topics with Google Trends
Turn live trending searches into blog topics: how to read search volume and start time, and how to pair timely posts with evergreen ones.
“What should I write today?” is every blogger’s question. Knowing what people are searching right now makes it easier to answer. Blog Booster’s Trends tab shows Google Trends’ trending searches.
1. What are trending searches?
Trending searches are queries whose search volume jumped sharply in a short time. The point is that they are terms people suddenly care about now, not terms that are always popular. Blog Booster reads them from the official RSS feed Google Trends publishes.
2. How to read the list
- Search volume: “2,000+ searches” is an approximate count — use it to judge scale, not as an exact number.
- Start time: “3 hr ago” is when the spike began. Newer spikes often have fewer posts covering them yet.
- Sorting: Top shows the big picture; Latest shows what’s just emerging.
- Region: it defaults to your location. If you write about other countries, switch regions to follow their trends.
3. Three ways to turn a trend into a topic
Timely explainers
Launches, events and policy changes make people ask “what is it, how does it work?” A concise explainer works well. Base it on official announcements, cover dates, conditions and steps, and cite your sources.
Connect it to your niche
A food blog might pick seasonal ingredients or a viral recipe; a travel blog, festivals and destinations. Choose trends that match your blog’s topic — chasing unrelated buzz doesn’t help your regular readers.
Expand into evergreen posts
Some topics keep getting searched after the buzz fades. Widen a product-launch story into “what to check before you buy”, or an event story into “what to pack”, and the post stays useful long after.
4. What to avoid
- Copying news: reposting article text or photos can infringe copyright. Write your own summary and opinion.
- Unconfirmed rumors: be especially careful with trends about incidents or people, and don’t spread unverified claims.
- Keyword stuffing: adding unrelated trending terms to your title disappoints readers and can violate search quality policies.
5. Carry it through in Blog Booster
- Pick a trend that fits your blog in the Trends tab.
- Click Write — the AI writer is filled with the keyword and related headlines for context.
- Get a draft, check the facts and finish it with your own experience and photos.
- Make a thumbnail with the keyword big and bold.
